Raiah Sanders is an African American writer from Sacramento, California. While earning her Bachelor’s degree in creative writing from the University of San Francisco she took media and film courses to hone her screenwriting skills. Her works often center around looking at the world through the lens of the young black women whose lives have yet to be interpreted through film. Her scripts cover several genres while exploring how these stories diverge from other films when the story follows a black protagonist. What different challenges would they face? How would they go about resolving conflict? What would they do when faced with the possibility of failure? She knows there are people out there wondering the same. People who believe there is more than one way to tell a black story. Our lives can be an interstellar epic, a chilling horror, an ethereal fairytale, or even a James Bond-esque action flick.
Her mission is to truly listen to filmgoers and produce scripts that are true to her just as much as they are true to the audience.
Raiah Sanders is currently pursuing screenwriting in Los Angeles while focusing in and continuing to work on these projects. The three films she has presented on this website are stories she believes are meant to be seen on screen. These are narratives she trusts will resonate with many. Her mission is to truly listen to filmgoers and produce scripts that are true to her just as much as they are true to the audience. With that in mind, she hopes that by creating film lookbooks and pitch reels she will find a network of professionals who believe in stories like these.
